Test Principle & Function
The drip test checks that falling, dripping water does not enter the enclosure. Water drips from a grid of sources placed above the enclosure, mounted as in service, for 30 minutes. This is a different test from the IEC 60529 drip box: it rates an enclosure Type, not an IP code, and uses a coarser grid of separate drip sources.
Each 508 × 508 mm module carries 20 drip sources on a 4″ × 5″ pitch. Modules can be joined 2 × 2 or 3 × 3 without breaking the grid, so the array can be sized to overhang the enclosure on every exposed side.
