The Ormity IPX3/IPX4 Spray Nozzle is a precision-engineered test device designed in accordance with IEC 60529 – Method B for ingress protection testing.
This spray nozzle (shower head type) is used to perform controlled water spraying tests required for:
IPX3 – Spraying water
IPX4 – Splashing water
It is manufactured to meet the dimensional and hydraulic requirements specified by IEC 60529 for Method B testing.
Normative Geometry – IEC 60529 Method B
The spray head is built according to the dimensional requirements defined in IEC 60529:
Head diameter: approximately 100 mm
Total number of holes: 121
Hole diameter: 0.5 mm
Concentric ring hole distribution
Uniform radial spray pattern
Approximate spray cone angle: 60°
The 121-hole configuration ensures uniform precipitation distribution across the test surface.
Hydraulic Requirements
The nozzle is designed to operate under the normative test conditions:
Total flow rate: 10 L/min ±5%
Flow adjusted to achieve the required spray pattern
Typical test distance: 300 mm from the DUT
Distance tolerance is typically ±25 mm, depending on the lab procedure
Flow stability is essential to ensure repeatable and compliant IPX3/IPX4 testing.
IPX3 vs IPX4 – Method B Execution
IPX3 – Spraying Water
Water is sprayed at angles up to 60° from the vertical, ensuring the enclosure is exposed within the defined angular range.
IPX4 – Splashing Water
Water is sprayed from all directions relative to the enclosure, either by:
Rotating the DUT
Moving the spray nozzle around the DUT
The same spray head geometry is used for both IPX3 and IPX4 under Method B.
Precision Manufacturing and Durability
The Ormity spray nozzle is manufactured with:
Precision-drilled orifices
Mechanically stable head geometry
Corrosion-resistant materials
Laboratory-grade durability
Proper machining and dimensional stability ensure that hole geometry and spray distribution remain consistent over time.
This avoids deformation, clogging, and spray pattern distortion often seen in low-cost stamped or poorly finished alternatives.
Typical Applications
The IPX3/IPX4 spray nozzle is used in:
Lighting product testing (IEC 60598)
Household appliances
Outdoor enclosures
EV charging systems
Industrial control panels
Certification laboratories
Integration
The nozzle can be used:
As a handheld Method B device
Integrated into controlled spray systems, spray chambers, etc.
With calibrated flow control systems
In conjunction with rotating platforms
Why Ormity
Ormity designs ingress protection equipment focused on:
Strict IEC compliance
Dimensional accuracy
Flow repeatability
Long-term laboratory durability
This spray nozzle is not a consumer sprayer — it is a compliance instrument engineered for certification environments.
