Glow Wire Tester – IEC 60695-2-10 Compliance System

Standard Compliance: IEC 60695-2-10, IEC 60695-2-11, IEC 60695-2-12, and IEC 60695-2-13.

Technical Overview

The Ormity Glow Wire Tester is a high-precision flammability testing instrument designed to simulate thermal stress produced by heat sources, such as glowing elements or overloaded resistors. It is an essential tool for evaluating the fire hazard of electrotechnical products and solid insulating materials in accordance with global safety standards.

Normative Congruency & Specifications

  • Glow-Wire Loop: Precision-manufactured from Nickel/Chromium (>77% Ni / 20±1% Cr) with a diameter of 4.0 mm, formed to the exact geometry specified in Clause 5.1 of IEC 60695-2-10.

  • Temperature Measurement: Features a high-performance Class 1 Mineral-insulated Type K Thermocouple (NiCr/NiAl) with a diameter of 1.0 mm, capable of continuous operation up to 960°C with a tolerance exceeding standard requirements.

  • Application Force: Engineered with a motorized carriage system that ensures a constant application force of 1.0 N ± 0.2 N against the test specimen, maintaining contact integrity throughout the heating cycle.

  • Penetration Depth: Equipped with a precision mechanical stop to limit the penetration depth to 7 mm, as mandated for standardized material evaluation.

Advanced Control & Safety Features

  • Smart Control Interface: Digital display for real-time monitoring of temperature, glow-wire current, and heating duration (Ta) / flame persistence (Ti/Te) timers.

  • Safety Enclosure: Large, dark-colored interior chamber (>0.5 m³) to facilitate flame observation, equipped with a tempered safety glass viewing window and an integrated ventilation system for rapid post-test smoke extraction.

  • Calibration-Ready: Designed for easy access for silver-foil calibration procedures to verify the thermocouple/loop accuracy at 960°C.

Technical Data Summary

  • Temperature Range: Ambient to 1000°C (Digital setpoint).

  • Contact Time (Ta): 0 - 999.9 seconds (Adjustable).

  • Application Force: 1.0 N (± 0.2 N).

  • Heating Power: Low-voltage, high-current transformer system for stable loop heating.

  • Specimen Carriage: Automatic motorized movement with adjustable speed.

  • Standards: IEC 60695-2-10 to 13, UL 746A, GB/T 5169.10.

Understanding the differences of GW Tests

Glow Wire Testing:

Understanding the Differences: The Equipment complies with IEC 60695 2-11, 2-12, and 2-13 standards. These standards specifically pertain to Glow Wire testing, a critical aspect of fire safety evaluation for materials used in electrical devices and appliances.

Glow Wire Test (GW): This test involves applying a heated wire (glow wire) to a test specimen to assess its flammability and resistance to ignition. The GW test simulates conditions where a heated part of a device could come into contact with a material. The GW1000 facilitates this test, offering accurate and controlled conditions.

Glow Wire Flammability Index (GWFI): The GWFI is the highest test result (temperature) at which a test specimen does not cause ignition or flaming combustion for a specified duration under the conditions of the GW test. It indicates the material's resistance to ignition.

Glow Wire Ignition Temperature (GWIT): The GWIT is the lowest temperature at which the test specimen ignites or shows glowing combustion within a specified time. It provides insight into the material's self-ignition potential.

Norm References: The Equipment complies with the following norms:

IEC 60695 2-11: Fire hazard testing - Part 2-11: Glowing/hot-wire based test methods - Glow-wire ignition temperature (GWIT) test method for materials

IEC 60695 2-12: Fire hazard testing - Part 2-12: Glowing/hot-wire based test methods - Glow-wire flammability index (GWFI) test method for materials

IEC 60695 2-13: Fire hazard testing - Part 2-13: Glowing/hot-wire based test methods - Glow-wire test method for end products

IEC 61010: Safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use.

Ensure the utmost fire safety and performance compliance with the Dunel GW1000 Glow Wire Test Equipment. Experience precise testing control, advanced safety features, and meticulous attention to standards.
