The UL 1598 Sprinkler Test Apparatus is designed to reproduce the ground-level angled water spray condition specified in ANSI/UL 1598 for luminaires intended for wet locations.
The apparatus consists of a single sprinkler nozzle mounted near floor level and oriented at a 45° upward angle. This configuration simulates water exposure resulting from splash, runoff, and wind-driven rain impacting the product from below.
The system ensures accurate and repeatable test conditions in accordance with the geometrical and operational requirements defined in UL 1598.
Applicable Standards
- ANSI/UL 1598 – Clause 19.18.1, Figure 19.18.1
- CSA C22.2 No. 250 (harmonized equivalent)
Additional Application Reference
This apparatus may also be used to reproduce angled water exposure and splash conditions required in other standards where test performance is specified without a fixed apparatus definition, including:
- UL 50E / NEMA 250
- CSA C22.2 No. 94.2
- IEC 60598 series (luminaires)
- IEC 60335 series (household appliances)
