IP5X IP6X Millennium Dust Chambers

Advanced Embedded Technology, Ultra-Low Noise, and Intelligent Expansion Redefine IP5X / IP6X Testing

This March marks a significant milestone in environmental testing engineering. Ormity officially introduces the new DNDC529 IP5X IP6X Millennium Series Dust Test Chambers, with the first units already being installed in Canada, the United States, and Europe.

Designed and manufactured in Canada, the Millennium Series sets a new benchmark for dust ingress testing under IEC 60529 (IP5X / IP6X) and ISO 20653 (IP5KX / IP6KX) standards, combining metrological precision, ultra-low acoustic emission, and an expandable architecture.

Engineering Design of IP5X IP6X Dust Test Chambers

One of the defining features of the Millennium Series is its highly engineered dust circulation system, ensuring:

  • Uniform talcum powder distribution

  • No dead zones

  • Excellent test repeatability

The system operates based on the standard 2 kg/m³ dust concentration, while supporting higher concentrations when required, maintaining stable internal aerodynamics throughout the test cycle.

The usable chamber volume is carefully calculated considering the blower and dust injection system, ensuring accurate compliance with occupancy limits required by international standards.

Remarkably Quiet Operation

In modern laboratories, excessive noise compromises productivity and operator comfort.

The Millennium Series was developed with a strong focus on acoustic performance:

  • ≤ 72 dB(A) at 1 meter distance, even at full blower operation

  • Ultra-low-noise vacuum generation system

  • Optimized airflow architecture

The result is a robust industrial chamber operating with controlled and reduced acoustic impact — ideal for accredited laboratories, automotive testing facilities, and R&D centers.

Intelligent Expansion for Complex and Protruding Samples

Lighting products, automotive components, and industrial devices increasingly feature complex geometries, rear protrusions, and extended heat sinks.

The Millennium Series addresses this challenge with an optional rear expansion accessory, allowing specimens to extend beyond the rear plane of the chamber without compromising:

  • Dust homogeneity

  • Internal airflow uniformity

  • Normative test validity

This enables testing of larger or irregularly shaped luminaires and assemblies while maintaining full compliance with IEC and ISO standards.

Strict Compliance with International Standards

The DNDC529 Series complies with:

IEC 60529 – IP5X and IP6X

  • Maximum specimen volume: ≤ 33% of usable chamber volume

  • Maximum specimen floor area: ≤ 33% of chamber floor area

ISO 20653 – IP5KX and IP6KX (Road Vehicles)

  • Maximum specimen volume: ≤ 25% of usable chamber volume

  • Maximum specimen floor area: ≤ 50% of chamber floor area

Important: Exceeding these occupancy limits invalidates the IP classification.

For combined dust and vibration tests (IP6KX), selecting the next larger chamber size is recommended.

Available Models – From 500 L to 4000 L
